Language in and through the Curriculum

A conference for new arrivals organised by NALDIC and the Collaborative Learning Project in Nottingham in June 2006.

Many apologies to those who have looked at this webpage up to now to see the follow up to the conference. The page was updated, but the link to the new page had not been made. You can now find links here to conference materials.

Here is the conference programme.

Robin Richardson very kindly agreed to be one of our keynote speakers. A summary of his presentation can be found here. You can find all about the work of Robin's INSTED at www.insted.co.uk. His website has lots of useful links. Our other keynote speaker was Angela Creese. Her powerpoint presentation can be found here.

Workshops were run by Helen Perfect, Irene Wilkinson, Sue Sheppy, Yvonne Wilkin, Liz Haslam, Steve Cooke, Amanda Gay and Stuart Scott.

Yvonne and Liz have posted an activity on bookmaking to support children new to English. You will also be interested in their book published by David Fulton.

One resource Sue Sheppy wants to flag up is the Mirage Children's Theatre Company www.miragetheatre.co.uk As well as offering performances and story telling sessions, they have the most wonderful dual-language story tapes for sale.

Guidance notes for teachers on new arrivals from Steve Cooke and Stuart Scott can be found on the Nottingham City website and teaching resources on this website.

NALDIC are planning to run more conferences for new arrivals and for information go to their website.
